NEWS FROM OUR PASTOR

Where has summer gone? In just two weeks our children and youth start back to school. A matter of priority in our prayer life should be our children, youth, teachers, aides, and administrators. Let’s make them a daily prayer concern.

I hope you take time to read your newsletter. Our staff takes time to write their articles so you can stay in tune with what is going on in all areas of ministry here at Calvary First. Please take a good look at the calendar and place it on your refrigerators or an obvious place in your home so you can support the ministries of our church. Randy and Felicia depend on you to have your children and youth at their Bible studies and activities. If you can sing, there is room in the choir for you. I know David would be happy for you to join them on Sunday afternoon at 4:30 for choir practice.

Several things I want you to take note of this month. On the 15^th we will begin the AM service with baptism. Then on the 29^th we will have the Lord’s Supper in the AM service. That same day at 4 pm I want to meet with those who have an interest in going to Honduras next year. We will discuss some dates for the trip and some things we can do to help us with the cost of the trip. We will meet in the Fellowship Hall. At 5 pm we will have a “Hymn Sing” at Sans Souci Baptist Church with a combined choir. This should be a great time of worship.

This month you will be receiving a Volunteer Form. Please pray as to where God would have you serve for the coming year. There will be boxes placed in the foyer and at the activity table for you to return those sheets. The Nominating Ministry Team will evaluate the returned sheets and put the final report together for your consideration. As I think of the Volunteer Forms, I’m reminded of how Jesus’ calls His disciples to come “follow me.” We should desire to serve Him through the ministries of Calvary First Baptist Church. It takes all of us working together to reach our community and the world with the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Always remember Jesus loves you and so do Carol and I. See you at church.

CHILDREN’S NEWS

I want to thank all of you who gave of your talents and time to VBS this year. It would not have been possible without you! I really appreciate Mrs. Darby, Mrs. Alexander, and Mrs. Allison for making the pillowcases for us. They were great!! Thanks to our teachers and their helpers for their time and faithful service to our Lord. The music and crafts were amazing. Thanks to you who donated our materials and those who led in these areas. The adults and youth were such a blessing to see night after night. I know that many of you prayed for our VBS program daily and that made all the difference. I believe the Lord was glorified in our time together during VBS. Thank you for everything!!

Our “Back to School Bash” will be on August 14^th from 5-8 pm. We will meet at the Partridge Ridge Community Pool. The pool is located on Duncan Chapel Road. You turn left at the red light in front of the McDonald’s at University Square and the pool entrance is the first road past the Vining Apartments on your left. There will be a lifeguard on duty at the pool. Children under the age of 6 will need an adult with them to swim. Pizza and drinks will be served by the pool. Please have your children sign-up at the activity table.

I have been encouraging our children to invite friends from school to church with them. I know as a parent this may not always be convenient, but you may be the only adult willing to take this extra child to church. It is not the children who decide to ignore Jesus and His teachings. You can make an eternal difference in the life of a child and in that child’s family by being willing to make an effort in the name of the Lord to see children brought to church. Please pray about the children in your child’s class this year in school. And if your child asks if they can invite someone in their class to church please pray about your response. I am encouraging your children at Calvary First to be missionaries in their school. Every missionary needs a support group and prayer warriors. Will you fill those needs in your child’s life this school year?

YOUTH NEWS

Dear Church Family,

My, how sweet it has been to feel the presence of the Holy Spirit and see Jesus radically changing lives. We definitely saw miracles performed in the lives of the youth at camp. I say thank you again to every person who was so instrumental in making sure that money was not an issue in determining who could and could not go to camp. Most of all I say thank you for your prayers. God heard our request and four new names are written in the Lambs Book of Life because God spoke and these young folks were obedient. ALL PRAISE BE TO GOD!

May I also say thank you to Mrs. Felicia for directing a GREAT VBS. I was fortunate enough to have some extra time with the youth during VBS, and I considered it an honor. It was really encouraging to see new faces in the youth and throughout the church during this time. May we remember that our competition is not other churches, but it is Satan. So the children and youth we know that are not in church should become a priority in reaching with the Gospel.

We will be starting a new “Fuel Series” during the month of August. I encourage the youth to be present so they don’t miss any episodes. A HUGE thank you again to Michael Jackson and Richard Drew for being a tremendous help when I am at the Fire Department. I know in my absence that these youth are under sound teaching and supervision.

May Calvary First continue to fulfill the Great Commission until Jesus comes.

MUSIC NEWS

This has been a great summer for our music ministry! Just recently, we enjoyed being led in worship by Gordon Jensen on a Sunday morning; and we worshipped with our Preschoolers and Children as they presented a summer musical; we have experienced the power and presence of the Holy Spirit as He moves in and through us as the choirs, soloists and ensembles lift up the name of Jesus in song. We have also seen first-hand God’s faithfulness in the duet by Tammy Franklin and Teresa Howard during July. We are truly blessed with musical talent and a willingness of God’s people to serve through music here at Calvary First.

Also a blessing has been the recent growth in our Adult and Children’s Choirs. WOW! God is blessing us with new folks who have amazing voices and who are adding to the love, spirit and ministry of the music within our fellowship. When I give thanks to God for His blessings, I include the way He is moving through and growing our music ministries.

I cannot wait to see what God has in store for the month of August in His music ministry. Folks, it gets more and more exciting each time we come together to worship! So, come, let’s worship!
